Getting Around

🚌 Free Vail Bus — East Vail Route

Vail runs a 100% free bus system year-round. The East Vail Route is the line that serves our neighborhood. It runs along the South Frontage Road and Main Gore Drive, connecting East Vail to Vail Village, Lionshead, and the ski lifts.

📍 Nearest Stop

Main Gore Dr & Bighorn Rd
0.4 mi / ~10 min walk from house

⏱ Frequency

Every 20–60 minutes
depending on time of day

🎿 Ski Gear

Skis & snowboards allowed on board (keep aisles clear)

🗺 Key Stops

East Vail → Vail Village → Lionshead → West Vail

⚠️ The walk to the bus stop is uphill, at altitude (~8,200 ft), and possibly icy. For most trips from this house, a rental car or rideshare will be easier.

Winter Bus Schedule → Live Bus Tracker →

📱 Uber & Lyft in Vail

Uber and Lyft do operate in Vail, but availability is limited compared to cities—especially during peak hours, late nights, and storms. Expect longer wait times (10–20+ min) and surge pricing during ski season.

Tip: Don't count on rideshares as your primary transport. A rental car shared between your group is far more reliable and cost-effective.

✈️ From Denver (DEN) or Eagle (EGE)

Eagle Airport (EGE): 30 miles / ~35 minutes to Vail. Seasonal flights available. Uber/Lyft ~$50–80.

Denver Airport (DEN): 100 miles / ~2 hours to Vail via I-70. Uber/Lyft ~$250+ or shuttle services ~$80–100/person.

Epic Mountain Express Shuttle →

🚗 Rental Car (Recommended)

AWD or 4WD is strongly recommended—one per family is ideal. Mountain roads and I-70 conditions require it in winter. We'll coordinate specifics closer to the trip!

The house has a 2-car garage + 2 additional parking spaces. Carpool with others in the group to save!

What to Pack

Vail sits at 8,150 ft — the altitude, sun, and cold are no joke. Here's what to bring.

⛷ Ski & Snow Gear

  • Ski jacket & snow pants (waterproof)
  • Base layers (moisture-wicking, not cotton)
  • Ski socks (wool or synthetic — bring extras)

  • Water bottle — drink twice what you normally do
  • Ibuprofen / Advil — for altitude headaches
  • Moisturizer — the air is very dry
  • Electrolyte packets (Liquid IV, Nuun, etc.)
